Lost In Translation

This movie never fails to deliver. Actually thought my wife was having kittens when Murray was on the cycling machine. Geniuses at work in all aspects of film here. Go on, indulge again it won't disappoint. 5/5

Ad Astra

Brad Pitt goes to Neptune to find his dad and returns to earth with a beard. Mission not accomplished. This is not one giant leap for mankind but a nice skip that on a big screen you might well enjoy - as did I . 3/5

While We’re Young

- being 43, I can act my age AND my shoesize. (European) Which is a great comeback to my mother’s jibes at my behaviour. I’m glad I am no longer 25. It never suited me. Much like this movie. 2/5

The White Crow

- it would be far too easy and incorrect to say this is a Russian Billy Elliot but I don’t have many more characters left to say much else. Oh well. Such is life. 2/5

Phantom Thread

- Daniel does not disappoint in this sewing tale and those around him shine too. Grab a cup of tea and a nice packet of biscuits and scoff the lot. Nice. 3.5/5

Darkest Hour

- Pretty impressive if the the Second World War really was won by having a conversation with a few ordinary folks on the District Line. I can't get a word of sense out of anyone these days on my commute. Good old British romp this one. Get involved. 3/5

Diego Maradona

- Brilliant. Everything that is beautiful and ugly about blokes kicking around a leather ball. Jesus and the Devil in a hurricane of cocaine and corruption. Really is a funny old game. Makes me sad to be honest. Chin up. 4/5

The Laundromat

- have you ever just watched the washing machine go round and round and round and round and got lost in a dream about a pair of pants and an old sock? Enough already. 1/5

If Beale Street Could Talk

Oscar for best cuss: “...you dried up yellow cunt”. Oscar for best in-laws arguement scene ever. The depressing undertone of this movie does not deter from it’s brilliance. Give it a whirl. 4/5

Theo Who Lived

Desperation, suicide, beheading, torture, kidnapping : welcome to one man’s living hell. Except it’s not just his. It’s all of ours. Doco you should definitely watch please. That problem you have at the moment, means fuck all really, doesn’t it. 4/5

American History X

- A couple of hide behind the sofa moments of absolute gratuitous violence which, perhaps probably make the film what it is - a brutal true reflection of the racist world we live in. Not for the faint hearted. Ouch! 4/5

The Meyerowitz Stories

A splendidly acted comedy. Well worth your viewing. Just sit back and enjoy the ride - I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's good to laugh and this has several spurt your tea all over your jumper moments. 4/5

It's All Gone Pete Tong

it certainly did but not as badly as you might think. Little fish little fish cardboard box.... I ain't gone none, he has, round the back.🙂 2/5

Only You

- raw and uncompromising story of a couple in their quest to conceive. Watchable, if not just for the sheer potential difficulties of procreation and the pain and frustration of not getting what your heart desires. 3/5

I Lost My Body

if you can get over the fact that a hand doesn't have eyes then you might be alright with this one. I couldn't. But then I'm a pedant about these things. Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it. (H)armless fun indeed. 3/5

Downsizing

Utterly gobsmackingly ridiculous. Waited and waited for a story to develop but ended up like a game of snake and ladders with only snakes on the board. Shame. 1/5

Atlantics

Not seen any Senegalese romantic sci-fi thrillers before. Not smitten but sufficiently attracted to see it through to the end. Didn't manage to float my boat I'm afraid. 2/5

The Two Popes

Sometimes, film just works and this is one of those little gems well worth your attention. Put all your prejudice, pride and pomp to the side and allow yourself to indulge. Superb performances all round. 4/5

Borg Vs McEnroe

I can be serious, the ball was out, now go and sit down and play nicely. What a marvellous picture this is. Transports you firmly back to 1980 when hairbands and tight shorts ruled ok. Big thumbs up from me. And boy are my thumbs big. 4/5

Marriage Story

- being a male over 40 years, I fell asleep three times in three attemps to watch this. Last memory is of a couple arguing ferociously about who gets the lampshades or something. Not my cup of splosh. Move on , nothing to see here. 1/5
