Beats

Proper cheesy quaver rollercoaster of a movie. Handing out flyers handing out flyers, he aint got none round the back. Little fish little fish cardboard box. If you don’t remember the 90’s you were never really there 4/5

Thunder Road

It seems Napoleon Dynamite has a long lost uncle. He’s just as unique and refreshing. Sit back and delight in this gem of a film. Can’t wait to see it again - its a thing of beauty. 4/5

I Am No Longer Here

Take yourself away to another world, culture and generation and then realise its entirely yours too. Maybe none of us are no longer here? If so, perhaps you wont mind if I have the last hobnob? 4/5

Motherless Brooklyn

Edward Norton is a fine fine man. Well, I can’t comment on his table manners but his acting is sublime. This gem scoops you back to the ‘50’s when Edward, just like now, was 25yrs old. Invest in this movie and it will pay dividends. 4/5

Fyre

You perhaps have seen it pop up on Netflix and thought you'd give it a swerve. On the contrary, get involved - it's a rollercoaster of staggering audacity and arrogance on every level possible. Instagram has come alive and takes plenty of prisoners in its wake. 4/5

Captain Fantastic

I'm packing the family up and we're gonna live in the woods and read Chomsky, kill a few deer, play guitar and dance like nobody is watching. "If we choose, we can live in a world of comforting illusion." What a lovely romp this movie is. Indulge. 4/5

Maiden War on the Waves

BBC FOUR doco about the incredible Tracy Edwards who lead the first all female round the world yacht team. Remarkable achievement and a truly epic picture. 4/5

The Aeronauts

What a beautiful movie this is. Sit back and strap yourself in - it's a bumpy ride. But sharing a basket with these two for 90 minutes is a splendid adventure indeed. 4/5

Diego Maradona

- Brilliant. Everything that is beautiful and ugly about blokes kicking around a leather ball. Jesus and the Devil in a hurricane of cocaine and corruption. Really is a funny old game. Makes me sad to be honest. Chin up. 4/5

If Beale Street Could Talk

Oscar for best cuss: “...you dried up yellow cunt”. Oscar for best in-laws arguement scene ever. The depressing undertone of this movie does not deter from it’s brilliance. Give it a whirl. 4/5

Theo Who Lived

Desperation, suicide, beheading, torture, kidnapping : welcome to one man’s living hell. Except it’s not just his. It’s all of ours. Doco you should definitely watch please. That problem you have at the moment, means fuck all really, doesn’t it. 4/5

American History X

- A couple of hide behind the sofa moments of absolute gratuitous violence which, perhaps probably make the film what it is - a brutal true reflection of the racist world we live in. Not for the faint hearted. Ouch! 4/5

The Meyerowitz Stories

A splendidly acted comedy. Well worth your viewing. Just sit back and enjoy the ride - I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's good to laugh and this has several spurt your tea all over your jumper moments. 4/5

The Two Popes

Sometimes, film just works and this is one of those little gems well worth your attention. Put all your prejudice, pride and pomp to the side and allow yourself to indulge. Superb performances all round. 4/5

Borg Vs McEnroe

I can be serious, the ball was out, now go and sit down and play nicely. What a marvellous picture this is. Transports you firmly back to 1980 when hairbands and tight shorts ruled ok. Big thumbs up from me. And boy are my thumbs big. 4/5

Capote

- outstanding once again from Philip Seymour Hoffman. A troubled soul indeed on and off screen. Makes you yearn for an answer to which we have no question. Cold blood, indeed. 4/5

BladeRunner 2049

never let the overwhelming sense of not knowing what the flying focaccia is going on in science fiction films , deny you their enjoyment. This is a wonderful example. Just sit back and enjoy the view - it’s not real. 4/5

The Party

- great British film that begins and ends with a bang. Tremendous stuff indeed. Feel like you’re sitting on the front row of the Old Vic somehow. Twists and turns then bites you on the arse when you least expect it. Party on ... 4/5

Stan and Ollie

- wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Possibly the greatest comedy double act of all time - in fact no, The Greatest. What a fine fine mess indeed. 4/5

Bandersnatch

- choose your own adventure comes to life and gives you a glimpse into a future you don’t want to admit we’re actually already living. Playing God has never been so thrilling. Do it. 4/5
